Last night we brought to class two objects with the same shape. We explored how to express a shape in three dimensions through movement.
Our process was largely framed by the work of the dynamic choreographer Wayne McGregor: http://www.ted.com/talks/wayne_mcgregor_a_choreographer_s_creative_process_in_real_time.html
Here's one of the shared shapes:
Once we had created a movement series from the shape, we infused the movement with an action verb, or, in actor-speak, an objective.
These verbs were gathered from a list generated by the sculptor Richard Serra, who applied them to his work with rubber and steel:
to roll
to curve
to crease
to fill
to tease
to end
to continue
to lift
