Harvard Alley

A Trace:  an imprint, an aftertaste, a body-ache.  A multimedia performance by the Harvard Alley Workshop locating the struggle to recapture lived experience in the action of performance itself.



In part, our performance traces the struggles felt by a woman living across the world from her partner.  Her struggle to overcome their temporal and spatial disconnection becomes a metaphor for the process of devising a performance: in the rehearsal process, a direct connection to a creative impulse leads to an action, which in turn leads to the next moment of discovery, and to the next original action.  In performance we re-trace the steps we took in rehearsal, representing the cycle of discovery so that performance becomes a series of repetitions: a trace representation of an original moment of discovery.
